Voters in Himachal brave cold to record 73.6% polling

  • As the elections to the assembly of Himachal Pradesh concluded on Saturday, the state witnessed a voter turnout of 74.05%.
  • According to the data of the Election Commission, the Solan district recorded the highest voting percentage of 76.82%.
  • The capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla recorded a voter turnout of 69.88%.

 

Nalini, five other Rajiv case convicts walk out of prison

  • Nalini Sriharan, her husband and three other convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case were set free from the Tamil Nadu prisons a day after the Supreme Court ordered their release.
  • Rajiv Gandhi, 46, was killed by a woman suicide bomber at an election rally in Tamil Nadu in 1991.
  • The Supreme Court allowed the release of Nalini Sriharan and four others – Murugan, Santhan, Robert Pais, Jaikumar and Ravichandran — citing their satisfactory behaviour and the fact that they had served over 30 years in prison fin the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

 

Teacher shortage at Eklavya Schools will be fixed soon

The administrative overhaul of the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), which is expected to solve the massive teacher shortage faced by Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for tribal students, will be approved “very soon” , Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said on Saturday

 

About by Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for tribal students

    • EMRS isa scheme for making model residential schools for Indian tribals (ST- Scheduled Tribes) across India. It started in the year 1997-98.
    • The Eklavya Model Residential School in Shinde (Nashik) has been planned by the Ministry Tribal Affairsto give impetus to quality education in nearby tribal areas.
    • The EMR School follows the CBSE curriculum.
    • Eklavya Model Residential Schools are being developed to impart quality education to tribal students, with an emphasis on not only academic education but all-round development of tribal students.
    • At present,there are 384 functional schools spanned across the country established at par with Navodaya Vidyalaya with focus on special state-of-the-art facilities for preserving local art and culture besides providing training in sports and skill development.

Coverage by Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for tribal students

    • As per existing EMRS Guidelines of 2010, at least one EMRS is to be set up in each Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) / Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) having 50% ST population in the area.
    • As per the budget 2018-19, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons, will have an Eklavya Model Residential School by the year 2022.
