About Sunderlal Bahuguna
·      Sunderlal Bahuguna was a famous Garhwali environmentalist and leader of the Chipko movement.
·      He was born on 9 January 1927 in the village of Maroda near Tehri, Uttarakhand.
·      Chipko Movement – Sunderlal Bahuguna also contributed to Chipko movement. Bahuguna gave the slogan of Chipko movement “Ecology is permanent economy.”
·      Anti – Tehri Dam Protests – He was against the construction of Tehri dam project. He used the methods of satyagraha, and went on hunger strike several times on the banks of the Bhagirathi.
·      He spent his entire life explaining and educating the villagers against the destruction of the forests and mountains of the Himalayas.
·      He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the year 2009.
