Windfall tax recently in news
- Windfall taxes are designed to tax the profits a company derives from an external, sometimes unprecedented event — for instance, the energy price rise as a result of the Russia Ukraine conflict.
- These are profits that cannot be attributed to something the firm actively did, like an investment strategy or an expansion of business.
- The U.S. Congressional Research Service (CRS) defines a windfall as an “unearned, unanticipated gain in income through no additional effort or expense”.
Mukul Rohatgi set to become Attorney General again
- The Attorney General for India is the Indian government’s chief legal advisor, and is its principal Advocate before the Supreme Court of India.
- They are appointed by the President of India on the advice of the Union Cabinet under Article 76(1) of the Constitution and hold office during the pleasure of the President.
- They must be a person qualified to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court.
India will hold G20 summit in 2023
- India will hold over 200 G-20 related meetings across the country during its presidency of the grouping that will begin on December 1, 2022 and continue till November 30, 2023.

384 drugs on essential medicines list
- A total of 384 drugs find place on the list with the addition of 34 drugs. Twenty six from the previous list have been dropped. The medicines have been categorized into 27 therapeutic categories.

Cabinet approves addition of 4 new tribe to schedule tribes list
- Addition of four tribes to the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST), including those from Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh.
- The Hatti tribe in the Trans Giri area of Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh, the Narikoravan and Kurivikkaran hill tribes of Tamil Nadu, and the Binjhia tribe in Chhattisgarh will be included in list.
President Murmu to join 500 world leaders at Queen’s funeral
- President Droupadi Murmu will be among an estimated 500 world leaders and foreign dignitaries, including kings and queens and heads of state and government, who will attend Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
