About the Fund

  • The government has set up the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to deal with any kind of emergency or distress situation like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • This Fund has been set up owing to a number of requests made by the people to support the government in the wake of the COVID-19 emergency.
  • The Fund is a public charitable trust with the Prime Minister as its Chairman. Other Members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
  • The Fund enables micro-donations as a result of which a large number of people will be able to contribute with the smallest of denominations.
  • The Fund will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.

International Day of Sign Languages – 23 September

  • The theme for the 2022 International Day of Sign languages is “Sign Languages Unite Us!”.
  • The International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL)is celebrated annually across the world on 23 September.
  • The day is a unique opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users.
  • Sign language gives people, who are hard of hearing, a medium to converse.
  • As the name suggests, this day aims to spread awareness regarding the importance of sign language in the realization of the human rights of people who are deaf.

Maharastra  government planning to establish an institution similar to Niti Ayog

The state’s deputy chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, revealed in a meeting that the Maharashtra government intends to create an organization along the lines of Niti Aayog.

Institution similar to NITI Aayog:

  • The Chief Minister of Maharashtra met with representatives from NITI Aayog to discuss a number of issues, including asset monetization and block chain in agriculture.
  • The discussion covered topics in the meeting are: alternative fuels, electric automobiles, drone healthcare, agribusiness including others.
  • According to Devendra Fadnavis, the NITI Aayoghas also conducted a thorough investigation into connected issues and created a technology that allows for the analysis of interrelated data from many departments in order to improve decision-making.
  • Devendra Fadnavis used the circumstance where the first department has information on a disease outbreak and another department has information on contaminated water as an example. He said that if the two departments shared data, things would be much simpler

BBNL company help Indian Army to get satellite based internet services on siachen glacier

  • The Indian Army has achieved a remarkable achievement, activating satellite-based Internet service on the Siachen Glacier, which is the world’s highest battlefield.

Key Points related to the Indian Army and BBNL

  • The Indian Army has collaborated with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL),which is a fully government-owned broadband infrastructure provider company. BBNL helps in providing internet services to the soldiers.
  • BBNL is working onBharat Net scheme which aims to provide internet connectivity using satellites to rural remote areas including 7000-gram panchayats. More than 4000 of these gram panchayats have already connected to the internet with BBNL.
  • The internet iswireless internet, beamed down from satellites orbiting the earth.
  • A few private companies are providing different satellite-based Internet servicesto the Indian Army in sensitive places in border areas like Eastern Laddakh.

About INS Ajay

  • INS Ajay was commissioned on 24th January 1990 at Poti,Georgia in the erstwhile USSR, and was part of the 23rd Patrol Vessel Squadron under the operation control of Flag Officer Commanding, Maharashtra.
  • The INS Ajay was in active naval service for more than 32 years during her illustrious journey.
  • INS Ajayhas participated in several naval operations including Op Talwar during Kargil War and Op Parakram in 2001.
  • The decommissioning ceremony of INS Ajay was attended by over 400 personnelincluding Flag Officers, Senior officers from the Army, IAF, and CG, Officers, and men of the Commissioning crew, crew of previous commissions as well as the ship’s present crew, and families

Smriti Mandhana became the fastest Indian to score 3000 runs in ODIs

  • Smriti Mandhana became the fastest Indian woman to reach 3000 ODI runs during India’s second ODI against England in Canterbury on Wednesday.
