Asha Parekh to get Dadasaheb Phalke Award

  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020 would be conferred on veteran Bollywood actor Asha Parekh
  • The award will be presented at the 68 th National Film Award ceremony, to be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, on September 30

About Dada Saheb Phalke award

  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in the field of cinema.
  • It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • The recipient is honoured for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry.
  • The award comprises a Swarna Kamal(Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000
  • The he award was introduced by the Government of India in 1969to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema

Hamar Beti Hamar Maan campaign launched by Chhattisgarh CM

About Campaign

  • Under the campaign, lady police officers and personnel will visit schools and colleges in the state to hold discussions and give guidance on legal rights, good touch-bad touch and preventive measures against sexual harassment and exploitation, cybercrime and social media-related crime, to girl students.
  • A helpline number will also be issued under the Hamar Beti Hamar Maan campaign. Details on the women’s safety app and its use will also be shared with the school- and college-going girls.
  • Special women patrolling will be ensured at girls’ schools, colleges and public places. A special ‘Hamar Beti Hamar Maan’ helpline will be launched and a mobile number shared in public domain for women and girls to report their complaints or problem regarding any misbehaviour or crime against them.

28th September is Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary

  • On the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh The Ministry of Civil Aviation today renamed Chandigarh International airport as ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport’.
  • Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the plaque at Mohali and paid tributes to the national icon on his 115th birth anniversary.

World Rabies Day observed on 28 September

  • In 2007, the first World Rabies Day (ERD) was organised by the two founding partners namely
    • Alliance for Rabies Control (ARC) and
    • the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta (CDC).
  • This year’s theme ‘Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths

About Rabies

  • It is a zoonotic viral disease.
  • It is caused by the Rabies virus, of the Lyssavirus genus, within the family Rhabdoviridae.
    • It is a Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) virus that is present in the saliva of a rabid animal (dog, cat, monkey, etc).
  • Rabies is 100% fatal but 100% vaccine-preventable. 
  • 33% of global rabies deaths are recorded in India.
  • Common Vectors/ Reservoirs of Virus
    • The most common reservoir of the virus is the domestic/street dog especially in South Asia and Africa.
    • More than 99% of human deaths due to rabies are caused by dog-mediated rabies.
    • In developed nations like the USA, animals that transmit rabies are bats, foxes, raccoons, and skunks.
    • Most mammals can carry the virus and hence can cause the disease.
  • It spreads by the bite of a rabid animal that leads to the deposition of the saliva and the virus in the wound.
    • The incubation period varies from 4 days to 2 years or sometimes even more.
    • The incubation period means the time interval between the bite and the occurrence of symptoms/signs of the disease.

Symptoms

    • Fever, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting
    • Anxiety, Confusion, Hyperactivity, Hallucinations, Insomnia
    • Difficulty swallowing
    • Excessive salivation
    • Partial paralysis
    • Fear brought on by attempts to drink fluids because of difficulty swallowing water, etc.
  • The death invariably occurs in 4 days to 2 weeks due to cardio-respiratory failure.

Control and Prevention of Rabies

  • Get rabies vaccination to prevent the infection.
  • Vaccinating your pet against the disease.
  • Maintain distance from the wild animals.
  • Wash wounds with soap and water and maintain good hygiene.
  • Keep your pets away from the other stray dogs.
  • Prevent bats from wandering around your campuses and living places.
